The Grobiņa City Festival 2024

With a diverse festival program from May 23rd to 26th, the Grobiņa City Festival 2024 will kick off the summer celebration season throughout the region. The range of events offered will provide visitors with ample opportunities to choose, enjoy, see, and hear.

The Grobiņa festival program will feature four different events: the international amateur theater festival "Dzērvju spēles," the motor festival "Seeburg Bikerland," a retro machinery day, happening for the first time in Grobiņa, and the Grobiņa City Festival with various activities over three days in different locations.

This year, the festivities will start a day earlier – on May 23rd, when Grobiņa's city library will host the distinguished actors Emīls Zilberts and Imants Strads, who will perform a poetry program "Call it theater" featuring the poetry of Māra Zālīte and music by Uldis Stabulnieks.

The festivities will be inaugurated by actors, as during this time, the International amateur theater festival "Dzērvju spēles" will take place, happening for the first time in the Kurzeme region. "Considering this important event, the theme for the evening festivities on Friday, May 24th, is 'Life as theater, theater as life.' We invite companies, institutions, associations, and residents to participate and creatively express themselves, forming groups of friends and relatives to enrich the festive procession," invites Grobiņa's cultural event organizer Gunta Gruntiņa. After the procession, there will be opening speeches and a concert by the group "bet, bet." The evening will conclude with a musical performance featuring elements of a fire show, and for the bravest, a night orienteering through the city.

Saturday, May 25th, will start as usual with a large festival market where artisans and home producers from both South Kurzeme and other regions of Latvia will offer their goods. During the day, there will be a performance of "Vella kalpi" (Devil's Servants) by local actors and a children's show "Zvaigznīte uz zemes" (Star on Earth), presented by guests from Saldus. Also, on the stage at the ruins, there will be a dance concert featuring Grobiņa's JDK "Spararats" and their dance friends' collectives. Children will be able to enjoy favorite inflatable attractions and other activities throughout the day. Additionally, there will be streetball near the church square, insight into daily work and information about professions provided by public safety, defense, and rescue services, and Firefighter Sports Festival, which this year will be held at the stadium, determining the most agile youth. Meanwhile, at the Grobiņa trial track, there will be the 2nd-3rd stage of the Latvian trial championship, and at the stadium – a trial demonstration show.

As a unique event at the city stadium during the festivities, there will be the "Retro Machinery Day," where visitors will have the opportunity not only to view vintage-style machinery but also participate in various activities for both children and adults.

An integral tradition and a major part of the festivities in Grobiņa is the motor festival "Seeburg Bikerland." Motorcycle enthusiasts will gather during the festival to introduce festival guests to the loud motorized vehicles. The festival will culminate with a concert by the group "Refleksija."

The highlight of the city's festival will be the concert by the band "Labvēlīgais tips," and after the concert, the festivities will continue with a ball at the ruins together with the group "Laika upe."

On Sunday, May 26th, the festivities will conclude with a concert by students of the Grobiņa Music and Art School at the Grobiņa Lutheran Church.
