Senienų saugykla "Jūras māja"
The strength of Ziemupe is sea urchin and heather flowers, and warm and hospitable people (Daiga Kadeģe).
That's what the story of the Sea House is about - about the sea, nature, people. The village of Ziemupe has been established in a place where the bottom of the sea used to be. The sea receded, giving the northerners a place to live...
The creation of the sea house started with an old photo (the only one) in the albums of the villagers, where young people take pictures by the fishing boats drawn up on the seashore (1939, 1940). In the past, every second, third house in the village had its own fishing boat.
They went to sea to replenish their food supplies, because it was very difficult to grow anything in the poor flour by the sea.
"Jūras māja" is a house of local stories - about the fishing boats burned during the Soviet era, about the ships washed ashore, about the refugee routes to Gotland and Inge's boat from Gotland. There are stories about coastal nature, plants and sea creatures - swordfish, abalone, fish, seals.
The exposition on the second floor consists of objects that, no longer needed by anyone, remained faithful to the homes of the winter residents and now form the history of our village.
Listen to the stories of Ziemupe, listen to the people of Ziemupe village!
There is also a tourist information center in the building, it is possible to use a shower and a washing machine, to charge phones and computers on the outdoor terrace. A place for small seminars.
