Pavilosta beach
Pāvilosta Beach is a relatively popular tourism and recreation spot during the summer season. During stormy weather, the beach becomes a favorite among surfers, kiteboarders, and windsurfing enthusiasts. The extended piers create excellent wave conditions!
Nearby landmarks include the South and North Piers, as well as the large Jūrakmens rock. Located 200 meters south of the swimming area is the Pāvilosta North Pier, with the South Pier running parallel to it. Initially, in 1878, the harbor entrance was constructed with rows of piles and stone mounds covered with juniper branches. In 1929, the piers were extended with concrete blocks. During the Soviet era, border guards patrolled the piers, and walking on them was prohibited. In 2010, the Pāvilosta port piers were fully reconstructed, with the historic lighthouses at the pier ends restored and dredging completed to a depth of 4.5 meters in the harbor area. In 2018, an extensive pier extension project was completed, with each pier extended by nearly 100 meters.
