Maznodupju Stone Pile and Māra’s Sanctuary
Sakas pagasts, Dienvidkurzemes novads
On the road section Pāvilosta - Ventspils, follow the sign Maznodupju akmens krāvums.
A small pile of stone - approx. 0.5 m high stone circle approx. 50 m in diameter, located deep in the forest. This place is surrounded by various stories and legends. There are different versions about the auspicious aura and healing properties of this place. There are hypotheses that it was a Bronze Age burial place (since there are still traditionally stone piles around cemeteries at the end of the coast), maybe a place for stargazing or meetings. The archaeologists' version is much more modest and relates to the cultivation and use of land 6.7. century, because people have left very few traces of activity here.
