The construction of Dižlāņi Manor began in 1872, following the orders of Baron Fyodor von Keyserling. By November 1875, the building was completed. The baron hurried to finish the new manor house to save the health of his newborn daughter Magda, who suffered from a congenital lung condition.
From 1924 to 2010, the building housed Vecpils Elementary School.
Today, Dižlāņi Manor is home to the Vecpils Cultural Center, a library, and a youth hostel.

The Yew Tree of Dižlāņi Manor
The yew tree was planted by Baron von Keyserling himself in 1875, when it was gifted to him by relatives during a housewarming celebration. The yew has witnessed much—both the joys and sorrows of the baron's family—and has stood as a witness to the changes in time and power.
The tree is both decorative and beautiful, but highly toxic. As a rare and unique conifer, it is listed as a protected species. It was introduced from Japan.
