Durbe's mound
The fortification and farm castle of the Livonian Order, later the Duchy of Kurzeme, in Durbe. Durbe Castle was built in the 14th century. The castle served to protect the important road that led from Prussia to Livonia.
The castle of the Durbe Order was built from boulders. The castle walls reached a thickness of 1.5 meters. An 8.7 meter wide residential building with cellars underneath was built inside the northern wall.
The castle was destroyed during the Northern War and has not been rebuilt since. Two fragments of the fortification walls have survived to this day.
