Sīmanis Klēvers' Garden and House in Durbe is a significant historical and horticultural monument associated with the first Latvian professional gardener, Sīmanis Klēvers (1834–1922). He was not only a gardener and author of horticultural books but also the mayor of Durbe (1893). Thanks to his efforts, numerous orchards were established in Durbe, and the town's coat of arms still features an apple tree with seven apples—symbolizing the rich horticultural history of the area.
In 1878, Sīmanis Klēvers founded a horticultural school and nursery on his property, where he experimented with different fruit tree varieties. His gardens became well-known throughout Courland and beyond, and his contributions to horticultural development are still recognized today.
At present, the historical property at Raiņa iela 36 still preserves old apple trees that carry the unique history of the place. The current owner has set up a small open-air stage for cultural and community events, bringing together locals and visitors. Additionally, the house where this pioneering gardener once lived is being restored.
