Baltic Ice Lake Shoreline
Medzes pagasts, Dienvidkurzemes novads
The Baltic Ice Lake shoreline is visible along the right side of the Liepāja–Ventspils highway, stretching across the entire length of the Medze parish, about 12 km. It is quite long and high, with some parts reaching up to 30 meters. From the top, you can look out over the coastal plain toward the Baltic Sea.
Had the designers and builders of the Liepāja Sea Fortress in the Russian Empire succeeded, by 1909, large cannon batteries were supposed to stretch along the Medze upland ridge for the defense of Liepāja. Spicais Hill would have become a massive concrete fort!
