The name Gavieze (also spelled Gaveyssen or Geneisen) is first mentioned in the April 4, 1253, treaty regarding the division of the Piemares land, signed by the Bishop of Courland Heinrich von Litzelburg and the Master of the Livonian Order.
The settlement developed around the Gavieze manor (Gut Gaweesen). During the 1905 Revolution, the manor house was set on fire.
In 1936, the manor house was restored, and a school was established in it. The school operated there until 2019, when local schools were reorganized. Since then, the building has been vacant and unused.
A cultural center has been established in the former manor barn. Many sources mistakenly state that it is located in the manor's stable, but this information has been disproven by research and photographs by Alma Kāle, the creator of the Gavieze Museum.
The manor park spans 3.6 hectares and features 16 species of foreign trees and shrubs, with a walking path. The park is particularly beautiful in early May when the white, yellow, and blue primroses are in bloom.
