Gavieze Manor
Gaviezes ciema centrs
The name of Gavieze (Gaveyssen or Geneisen) was first mentioned in a land division agreement for the Piemares region on April 4, 1253, concluded between Heinrich von Lützelburg, the Bishop of Courland, and the Master of the Livonian Order.
The settlement developed around the center of Gavieze Manor (Gut Gaweesen). During the 1905 revolution, the manor house was burned down.
In 1936, the manor building was restored and converted into a school, which operated until 2019, when schools were reorganized in the municipalities. Since then, the building has remained empty and unused.
A cultural center was established in the former manor granary. Many sources mistakenly state that it was in the manor stable, but this is incorrect, as proven by research and photographs collected by Alma Kāle, the founder of Gavieze’s heritage collection.
The manor park spans 3.6 hectares and features 16 species of exotic trees and shrubs, with a walking path. The park is particularly beautiful for leisurely walks in early May when white, yellow, and blue anemones bloom.
