The Kazdanga Manor complex (Katzdangen) belonged for many generations to the wealthy and politically influential Manteuffel barons of Courland. The manor, built in the Classical style in the early 19th century, was designed by the renowned Western European architect J.G. Berlitz.
The Kazdanga Manor is surrounded by a park established in the early 19th century as a landscaped park with various walking paths, a system of separate trails, benches, and small bridges. Today, Kazdanga Manor Park, covering 196 hectares, is one of the largest and most botanically rich manor parks in Latvia. The park contains two circle crosses on either side of Dzirnezers Lake. Numerous ponds are located within the park because Kazdanga was the first place in the entire Russian Empire to engage in pond farming around 1870. The mill pond is also dammed on the Alokste River.
