Elekši Cult Stone

An ancient cult stone with a total of 263 cup marks on its surface. In terms of the number of cup marks, it is the most extensive cup-marked stone in Latvia.
It is believed that the cup marks were created 2,000–3,000 years ago by local inhabitants, who ground them into the stone using another rock. The purpose of making these cup marks is no longer known for certain, but it is clear that it was of great significance, as creating them required a tremendous amount of effort.
Stone dimensions: length 2.42 m, width 1.90 m, height 0.90 m, circumference 7.35 m, volume 2 cubic meters.
Currently, the stone is located on private property. A few years ago, it was nearly destroyed.
The stone is easily accessible. From Priekule, it can be reached via a small field road. From the road, cross a meadow—approximately 350 m from the former site of the Elekši homestead.
Near the Elekši Stone is the Priekule Pine Grove, a spot for pleasant walks where you can also enjoy refreshing spring water.
