This is the largest brothers' cemetery in the Baltics, where more than 23,000 Soviet soldiers who fell during the 5th major battle of the Courland Pocket in World War II are buried. These soldiers lost their lives in Priekule and its surroundings in the spring of 1945.
Since Priekule was a station for strategically important railway lines, the battle for the liberation of Priekule was so intense that the town was completely destroyed. The creation of the brothers' cemetery memorial began in 1973, based on the design by sculptor Pārslas Zaļkalne, architect Artūrs Zoldners, and dendrologist Aivars Lašs.
For many years, the relatives of the fallen soldiers have traveled to this site to commemorate their loved ones with flowers and moments of silence.
