Bicycles and boats are useful tools for traveling along the countryside and waterways.

In the Priekule region, the best rivers for boating are the Vārtāja River and the right tributary of the Bārta River in the South Kurzeme region. The longest tributaries are Virga (29 km) and Birztala (25 km). The largest settlements along the riverbanks are Krote, Bunka, and Krūte.

Although the Vārtāja River is no longer as wide or deep as it was during the times of the Curonians, the stunning landscapes of the Vārtāja river valley are still a delight for both boaters and cyclists. There are plenty of gravel roads with beautiful views and low traffic in the Priekule area, ideal for their journeys.
