Lielbāta Natural Spring
The Lielbāta Natural Spring is the largest in Latvia and one of the rarest in Northern Europe, bringing biologically active and properly structured water from deep underground to the surface. Flowing from west to east towards the sun, it has long been considered magical, even sacred, with healing properties.
Historical records first mention the Lielbāta Spring in 1253, and to this day, it continues its flow.
The spring is located in a clean and well-maintained environment. Over time, the flow of the spring has not diminished but has instead grown stronger. With remarkable power, the spring provides its unique natural treasure—pure, biologically active, and properly structured water—day and night, winter and summer, without interruption.
Near the spring is the historic Vaiņode, or Lielbāta, Manor, built in the mid-19th century by Baron Osten Sacken. Historical evidence suggests that the location for constructing the manor was no coincidence. In 1923, the manor was converted into a sanatorium, which not only became the most exemplary in Latvia but could also rival foreign sanatoriums. This was due to the naturally pure and healing environment, which has been preserved to this day.
Although Lielbāta Manor is currently private property and not open to visitors, the Lielbāta Spring is freely accessible, offering everyone the chance to taste its water.
