Zenta Mauriņa (1897 - 1978), a writer and literary historian, an international award winner (in 1971 Konrad Adenauer Prize, in 1977 Switzerland`s award for human rights and freedom), lived there from 1898 to 1921. She was also mentioned in the re-printed encyclopaedia "World`s Most Famous Women" issued in France!
