The Krūte-Bārta Church is a state-recognized architectural monument and one of the few unique historical wooden churches in Latvia.
Originally built in 1642 under the leadership of the von Butler family, it started as a small log church clad with wooden planks. In 1832, it was rebuilt in the Mannerist style, retaining its unique historical charm. During World War II, the church tower was destroyed and later reconstructed with bricks after the war.
The church interior is an outstanding art monument. Particularly notable are the 17th-century altar, the ornate pulpit, and the altar painting "Christ on the Cross", whose author remains unknown. Nearby, ancient German baronial graves have been preserved, highlighting the church's historical connection to the region.
In 2012, the restoration of the church began with support from the German government, the Baltic-German Foundation, the Latvian state, and the church congregation. The work included repairing the roof and foundations, strengthening load-bearing structures, installing drainage, and restoring the interior and altar painting.
The Krūte-Bārta Church is a unique cultural and historical monument, inviting visitors to explore Latvia's rich architectural and artistic heritage.
