Wall painting of the Linmeyer House
I
In collaboration with artist Gerda Stūre, a large-scale mural "GOD BLESS LATVIA" has been created on the wall of the Linmeijers building. The main composition of the painting transforms part of the house into a triumphal arch, inspired by the architecture of Latvia in the 1920s-30s and Latvian symbols – oak vines, Latvian patterns, and other motifs.
The central part of the arch is decorated with the inscription "GOD BLESS LATVIA." The dynamic and eye-catching part of the mural features an allegory of Latvian identity – a daughter of the nation on a white horse, passing through the arch. The mural reflects a version of Latvia's triumphal arch, symbolizing the victory and triumph of Latvian identity, the creation of the state, and proving its courage and resilience. Thus, the victory is manifested in architecture, symbolizing the gates to the future.
The triumphal arch in the mural is complemented by a sea background and symbols of the world's continents, allegorically representing Latvia's connection to the world, while also reminding of Aizpute as an ancient port city. The mural was created by the "Linmeijers" association and artist Gerda Stūre. The creation of the painting was co-financed by the Aizpute Municipality.
