World's Smallest Exhibition Hall
Pasta iela 6, Aizpute, Dienvidkurzemes novads
The world’s smallest exhibition hall is a 10x10x10 cm transparent cube, where everyone has the opportunity to view the displayed artworks in an unconventional way by looking through the keyhole of a Linmeijers tractor door. The concept and idea of the exhibition hall were created by architect Ivars Šmits, and the operations are managed by the “Linmeijers” association.
Recently, a virtual gallery has been opened in the exhibition hall, showcasing digital artworks through the augmented reality app ART+. The app can be downloaded for free from AppStore and Google Play platforms, allowing the combination of art in both physical and digital spaces. Curator Vilis Brūveris notes that this approach provides a new cultural experience, allowing users to experience art in a different way.
Currently, four digital artworks are available in the virtual gallery:
• "What Are You Doing to Keep Your Sanity?" by Anna Priedola and Santa Frances addresses mental health issues, visualizing suggestions and data about a healthy lifestyle. • "Stone Bets" by Ivo Tauriņš is a radio art piece comparing Latvian wedding traditions in the 20th century and today. • "Plastic Rain" by Maija Demitere and Oleksandr Sirous explores the impact of microplastics on the environment and encourages reconsidering daily habits. • "Friends for Life" by Inga Šlangena highlights the emotional bond between humans and pets.
In addition to the virtual artworks, the exhibition also features Maija Demitere’s kinetic artwork “Microcosm of Change,” which calls attention to the human impact on water ecosystems and climate.
The virtual gallery was created in collaboration with the association "ASTE. Art, Science, Technology, Education." The exhibition hall was designed by Vilis Brūveris and Helēna Zīlīte, the owners of the “Linmeijers” house, together with architect Ivars Šmits.
The artworks are available for viewing free of charge at any time of day or night, either by looking through the "Linmeijers" house keyhole or using the ART+ app.
