The highest dune in Latvia – Pūsēnu kalns
Jūrmalciems, Nīcas pagasts, Dienvidkurzemes novads
Pūsēnu Hill is the highest coastal dune along the Baltic Sea in Latvia, with an absolute height of 37 meters above sea level. It is located within the territory of Bernāti Nature Park and is a protected natural monument.
Pūsēnu Hill formed a couple of centuries ago, following a major forest fire that destroyed the ground cover, allowing the sand to shift freely. Today, the movement of the dune has been halted, as most of the hill is now covered by a pine forest.
To explore Pūsēnu Hill, take a walk along the well-maintained nature trail that leads to the very top of the dune, offering a breathtaking view over the treetops and the Baltic Sea!
