Memorial stone to victims of communist terror
On March 25, 1949, the Soviet occupation authorities carried out the second mass deportation of Latvian citizens as part of the Baltic Deportation Operation "Krasta Banga" (Priboj). In one night, around 42,000 people, including 10,000 children, began their journey to special settlements in Siberia. In Nīca Park, 240 residents from Nīca and Otaņki parishes were gathered—old and young, families with small children—to later be sent to Siberia by train from the Tores station in Grobiņa.
This memorial stone is dedicated to the victims and those who suffered from the tragic terror. The memorial site is located in Nīca Park.
