Jūrmalciems pier
Over time, the fishermen of Jūrmalciem use the jetty for tying boats, acquiring the local name "Prichals" during the Soviet era. Jūrmalciem pier is the only one of the piers built on the Kurzeme coast during Latvia, which is still in use.
In 2004, the 70m long planking of the pier was restored, but over time it has been severely damaged by wind and waves.
Nowadays, guests of Jūrmalciems visit the beach and the pier, as well as the fishing vessel with a tug that is often there. The jetty is still used today by local fishermen and several fishing crews regularly go to sea. Although the number of fishermen, the amount of work and the amount of fish are not what they were decades ago, every year in July visitors from near and far celebrate the Fisherman's Day. You can learn about fishing traditions and the history of Jūrmalciems and view the exhibition dedicated to fishermen in Jūrmalciems Tīklu house "Piestātne".
