Rucava arboretum
The arboretum creation project began in 1996, when Salaspils Botanical Garden's dendrologist and biological sciences doctor Raimonds Cinovskis jointly concluded an agreement with the Rucavas parish administration on the creation of trial plantations. Muižas hill and the forest adjacent to the school were selected as the most suitable places for planting. In the following years, greenery was also created in the center of Rucava. Dendrologist Inārs Bondaris was appointed as the head of arboretum creation works. The purpose of creating an arboretum is to study and evaluate the economic importance of plants, decorativeness, suitability for local conditions and acclimatization ability in this region. Every year, the plantings are supplemented with new and exotic specimens of plants from all over the world.
The Latvian Olympic Club also actively participates in the creation of the arboretum.
