Village of Pape Kõņi
Pape, Rucavas pagasts
Pape's Ķoņu Village is a unique historical fishing village – one of the rare gems not only in Latvia but also in the context of all of Europe. It has preserved ethnographic and folk architecture phenomena that have long since disappeared elsewhere. Ķoņu Village is located in the Rucava Parish on a sandy strip of land between the sea and wetlands, formed in the place of an ancient lagoon. The village is part of the Pape Nature Park. Since 29th October 1998, part of the Ķoņu Village area has been designated as a national architectural monument, "Pape Ķoņu Fishing Village." With the guidance of the owner of the "Mikjāņu sēta" campsite, visitors have the opportunity to explore the village's historical buildings and learn about the restoration work that has been done.
