Nature trail in Dunika bog

Coordinates: 56.280956, 21.382829 (immediately enters the bog), 56.240102, 21.403041 (the walk starts through the Lukne beech grove)

In Dunika parish, one of the most surprising places is the Dunika moor, which is crossed by a 5.3 km long boardwalk built by the "Latvijas valsts mežu" with several rest areas. On the southern side of the bog, there is a grove of Lukne hornbeams. This is the only place in Latvia where common hornbeam grows in a pure stand on an area of 11 ha. In Lukne, it has reached the extreme northwestern limit of its distribution. According to local residents, a tank has sunk in the bog, but no one has yet managed to find it.
