The ruins of Embūte Church
The Embūte cultural monument. The church was built from 1674 to 1684, financed by the then owner of the manor, Emmerich von Mirbach. The Embūte Lutheran Church was one of the largest in the Duchy of Courland, with 300 seats. During the interwar period, thousands of people gathered here, including the most prominent figures of the country, led by Kārlis Ulmanis.
The church was notable for its wood carvings inside. During World War I, the church was not damaged. It once had a massive crystal chandelier. In 1926, the church was renovated, but at the end of World War II, the church was destroyed. Only the walls and the bell tower remain, where traces of artillery shells can still be seen.
