The ruins of Embūte church
Cultural monument of Embūte. The church was built between 1674 and 1684, financed by the then owner of the manor, Emmerich von Mirbach. Embūte Lutheran Church has been one of the largest in the Duchy of Kurzeme with 300 seats. During the free state, thousands of people gathered here, including the most prominent statesmen, with Kārli Ulmani at the head.
The church was notable for its wood carvings in the interior. The church was not damaged during the First World War. There was a huge crystal chandelier in the church. In 1926, the church was repaired, but at the end of the Second World War, the church was destroyed. Only the walls and the bell tower remain, where you can see the marks left by artillery shells.
