The ruins are located in Gramzda parish and are unique in their construction technique. As a rule, the oldest churches in Latvia were built of masonry, but the Church of Smiles was built using concrete casting technique. The church functioned until 1952. The tower and wall of the Smaižu church have been preserved, which still fit well into the rural landscape of Dāmas village.
