The Rucava Central Mill was built in 1937 and remained an important grain processing site for farmers in the Rucava (then called Paurupe) village area until the 1960s. During its operation, this place was also referred to as the "Palace of Light," as the electricity produced by a steam locomotive engine not only powered the mill but also supplied part of the Paurupe village with electricity.
In later years, the building was repurposed as a storage facility for a mechanical workshop, which operated until the 1990s.
In 2020, after the building's reconstruction, an exhibition was created to showcase the cultural heritage of the Rucava region. The exhibition also includes a rich collection of musical instruments belonging to the folk musician Jānis Pūķis.
