The museum is located in a historic building – the New Manor House of Aizpute Castle. The building was constructed at the turn of the 18th–19th century as the new manor house. The castle owner's family moved here, while the old castle housed the manor servants. The museum features 7 permanent exhibitions that provide insights into the history of Aizpute town and its surroundings, as well as its economic, cultural, and social life. A new art exhibition is displayed in the museum's exhibition hall every month.
With funding from the EU's European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), the exhibition "Ancient Rural Craft Skills," established in the museum's basement in 2015, introduces visitors to textile craftsmanship, woodworking, and household activities, along with the tools used for these purposes. The exhibition offers programs for various life events, such as for newlyweds, silver and golden wedding anniversaries, children's birthday celebrations, and more, as well as a variety of workshops.
