The trail winds along the bends of the Ālande River through modern Grobiņa. Along the entire route, at the information stands, you can get to know the stories of the history of Grobiņa. On the way it is possible to see the Grobiņa mound, the old town, and ancient graves. Grobiņa, which the newcomers called Zēburga (Jūrpils or Ezerpils), is the first inhabited place in Latvia recorded in written sources. It was already inhabited in the Stone Age, later - at the beginning of the 1st century AD - Grobiņa became the center of the Curonian tribe of the Western Balts. Until the 9th century, Grobiņa was a large urban settlement of Curses and Vikings, well known in the world at that time. The park and walkway are suitable for walking, cycling and will be convenient for parents with prams and people with mobility impairments. Ālande River Park can also be enjoyed by boat along the Ālande River Road.
