The Nature Processes Trail offers approximately a 9 km walk through five ecosystems—lake, meadow, forest, bog, and dunes. At each stop, information boards provide stories about how natural landscapes form under the influence of various natural processes, such as water, fire, wind, and large herbivores.
Along the way, you can also visit the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum’s fisherman’s homestead “Vītolnieki.”
Best time to visit:
The trail is suitable for walks and quiet enjoyment all year round. In spring and autumn, the path between Ķoņi village and the bog platform may be wet.
Markings: Yellow circles.
Surface: 5.1 km on an earthen road; a boardwalk and observation platform in the bog; 4 km along the seashore (from the dune sign, return path).
Warning: The forest and beach sections are not wheelchair accessible.
Distance: 9.1 km / approximately 4.5 – 5 hours.
